About Nature Detectives Trail

The trail is located in the Cheile Turzii nature reserve, in the Vapa forest. The main car access road is from DN75 (Turda – Câmpeni), from which a local road leads to the village of Cheia, which then continues to the cottage, at the downstream entrance of the keys. Turda can be reached on foot starting from the center of the city, either through the Săndulești locality, or on the summit road called “Drumul Domnilor” (2 hours of walking). The entrance to the thematic path is from the Cheile Turzii cabin, on the red dot towards Crucea Sânduleştilor

  • Panel 1 is located at the entrance to the route and provides us with general information about the thematic path, the map of the thematic route, recommended activities in the perimeter of the reserve and the Natura 2000 sites.
  • Panel 2 is located at the edge of a clump of pines, at the contact between the Vapa forest and the Emil Pop slope, from where the most beautiful perspective opens over the Cheilor Turzii gorge. It is the place where we learn stories about how the keys were formed and we can see from a distance the first forms of the relief formed on the limestone.
  • Panel 3 is in the beech forest, home to various animal species in the area, near an animal feeder (manger). Every rock corner, water hole, the forest and the bushes teem with life, from the simplest forms to the animals of hunting interest. With a little luck and a lot of attention, here we can meet different species of animals.
  • Panel 4 is located at the contact between the forest and the meadows and is the perfect place from where we can discover the fascinating world of birds. Above the trees but also above the cliffs we can see numerous species of birds. The alternation of rocks and meadows offers feeding opportunities for different species of raptors, but also for rare species that have made their nests on the rocks.
  • Panel 5 is in the “Botanical Garden” of Cheile Turzii, the place where Erasmus Nyaradi and Emil Pop discovered almost 1000 species of plants… How many species do you think you will discover?
  • Panel 6 is above the rocky cisterns of the Warm Wall. In this place we can see the details of the relief on the limestone, both the relief resulting from the action of water dissolution (slabs, sinkholes, caves) and the forms resulting from the freeze-thaw activities (towers, rocky ridges, grottoes).
  • The thematic path partially overlaps with the tourist route Circuitul Cheilor Turzii, route marked with a red dot.
Attention!!! There are no sources of drinking water on the route! The route crosses steep and slippery slopes!
