Length: 1.2 km; Vertical climb: 40 m
Duration: 2 hours (including interpretation activity) – Duration for access to the reserve and return (4-6 hours)!
The thematic trail partially overlaps the tourist trail that crosses the reserve (red dot marking)
Attention !! There are no drinking water sources on the route!
At the entrance to the reserve (in the eastern and western parts) there are 2 panels that provide general information about the thematic trail, the map of the thematic route, recommended activities within the perimeter of the reserve and information about Natura 2000 Trascau sites.
Panel 1 – Nature in colour – the panel is located at the contact between forest and meadows, surrounded by junipers and beautifully smelling tulichine bushes. Here we will discover Nature in Colors and we will also learn about how these places have transformed over hundreds of millions of years.
Panel 2 – Discover Scărița-Belioara – the panel is located at the edge of the limestone plateau, from where a superb panorama opens above the steepness, towards the Belioara valley. Here we will identify the surrounding places and understand how the relief was formed.
Panel 3 – Flowers and butterflies at Şesul Craiului – in the meadow of Şesul Craiului were discovered numerous species of plants, both thermophilic species and glacial relicts. How many species do you think you’ll discover?
Panel 4 – The limestone rocks – the panel is located above the rocky cliffs of the Great Pit, in the vicinity of Bleanţ’s Corner. In this place we can discern the details of the relief on limestone, both the relief resulting from the action of water dissolution and the shapes resulting from freeze-thaw activities.
Panel 5 – Forest ecosystem – The panel is located in the forest on the northern slope, where we find different species of trees and shrubs. In recent years, due to fires and storms, the forest area has greatly decreased. The fallen forest is very important and is home to numerous species of insects, invertebrates, small birds, amphibians and reptiles.
Panel 6 – House of animals and birds – forest, meadow and steep slopes are buzzing with life, from the simplest forms to large mammals. The alternation of rocks and meadows offers feeding possibilities for different species of raptors, but also for rare species that have nested on the rocks.
With a little luck and a lot of attention, at Scariţa-Belioara we can quietly observe numerous species of plants and animals.
