About The Talking Stone Trail
Welcome to the world of Talking Stones, a fairytale world, a magical land with mysterious legends, caves and waterfalls, rare animals and plants, hardworking and thrifty people … A world where stones have learned to speak and tell us beautiful 🙂 stories
The route is located in Sălciua commune, with access from DN Turda-Campeni. Access is made from the entrance to Sălciua de Jos (from Turda), crossing the wooden deck, or from the center of the commune on the way to Huda lui Papară. The entrance to the thematic trail is made on the tourist route to Poarta Zmeilor Cave (red cross marking)
Length: 6 km; Level difference 300 m (425-725m) Duration: 3-4 hours (including time for interpretation)
Marking: Red Cross (panel 1-5), Red Triangle (5-7), Yellow Band (7-8). Low difficulty, accessible all year round, but requires attention on sloping slopes and slippery places! (e.g. waterfall descent)
For activities lasting 1 day (minimum 10 hours), from Șipote glade (panel 5), the route can be extended to Poarta Zmeilor Cave, on the tourist route marked red cross, with the return on the tourist route yellow strip. Difficult route, recommended for people with good knowledge of orientation in the field, properly equipped.
Discover, Learn, Protect…
Panel 1 is located at the entrance to the route and provides us with general information about the Natura 2000 Trascau site, the thematic path, the map of the thematic route and the tourist routes in the area.
Panel 2 (discover the Aries Valley) is located at the edge of the forest, from where a beautiful perspective opens over the Aries valley, towards the village of Sălciua, but also towards the limestone cliffs of Bedel. It is the place where we learn stories about how the Aries River was formed and what are the main types of rocks in the area.
Panel 3 (the forest, the animal house) is located near a spring with clean and cold water, in a beautiful meadow in the middle of beech forests. We make a short stop to learn interesting things about the plants and animals in the forest.
Panel 4 (Travertine Falls) is at the upper falls on Šipote Creek. Here we will learn the stories brought by the waters from the depths, which gave birth to the relief formed on the travertine.
Panel 5 (the Bedeleu massif) is located in the Șipote clearing, a place to stop and a source of drinking water for continuing the trails in the area. Sitting on the stones in the meadow, we will admire the limestone cliffs of Bedeleu and understand how the underground world was formed, full of fascinating legends and mysteries.
After following the tourist path, on the level curve, we reach panel 6 (limestone cliffs), located at the edge of the fallen forest due to the storms. It is the place where we can see up close the limestone cliffs, shelter for numerous species of reptiles, mammals and birds.
Panel 7 (mountain meadows) is at the exit from the forest, at the bifurcation of the red triangle trail with the yellow strip. Mountain meadows and meadows have an exceptional biological diversity and represent a habitat characteristic of these places.
Panel 8 (man and traditional activities) is located in a belvedere, from where we can admire the village of Sălciua and its surroundings, to understand why agricultural activities and animal husbandry are very important in these places.
