About Following Decebal's Steps Trail
The road to Sarmizegetusa Regia is paved, and in the middle of it we also find a resting place that protects us from the rain. In the perimeter of the fortress, we move on well-shaped dirt paths.
After paying the entrance, we enter the fascinating territory of the Dacians and Romans, where we follow the open route for visiting. There are a number of information panels that help us better understand what we see.
The roads through the fortress are made of beaten earth. Part of the fortress is located in the middle of the forest and thus protects us from rain or scorching sun. The sacred area is instead fully bathed in sunshine.
Between the large circular sanctuary and the large limestone sanctuary, in the eastern part of the sacred area, we can walk another path to a fragment of wall swallowed by the forest. Remember that the area is protected, so you have to follow a few rules while you visit :
- Stay on track
- Keep quiet
- Do not gather stones or minerals
- Don’t pick mushrooms
- Don’t throw garbage, take it with you
- Do not feed wild animals
- Camping is allowed only in official campsites
- Do not light a fire
- Don’t pick flowers
- Do not disturb animals and do not destroy vegetation
- Do not swim in lakes or streams
- Do not use inflatable mattresses or surfboards on the water
- Remove your dog’s droppings
