This game is very simple and easy to ply, by anyone who wants to get more familiar with reading or books, in a fun way.
Rule no.1: The group of participants needs to choose one Leader. The Leader has to pick up a book, without anyone else seeing what book it is or what's it called (we suggest that the rest of the group to be in another room when the Leader chooses the Mystery book)
Rule no.2 : The Leader must write down the Title of the book he chose and then put it back on the shelf, with the rest of the books, so no one knows which one he or she picked up.
Rule no.3 : Split the Title of the book into separate words or letters (depends how difficult you want the task to be) and try to create some riddles, poems or just simple phrases, out of them.
Rule no.3 : the rest of the group must join the Leader and try to find the Mysterious Book on the shelf, as soon as possible, just by looking at the riddles and clues, made by the words and letters of the book's title
You have to make sure that the book that the Leader picks up from the book shelf is mixed well among many other books, so the rest of the group doesn't guess very easily which one it is. The Leader must come up with funny riddles, made from the words in the book title, or if it's too difficult, even simple phrases will do.
Example: The Mystery Book's title is Alan' s Journey through the Never Seen Before Land. The words from the title would be: Alan, journey, never, seen, before, land
The Leader could create a few phrases with these words, like " Alan has never seen a giraffe before, but the land where he found her was very far", " The land where i want to go on a journey has never been seen before" and so on. Children can think of ways to use the words in the title, but in a tricky way, so the others don't guess easily the book's title (it doesn't have to be very difficult either:)
The outcome of this game spreads in various directions, from getting kids interested in reading or discovering new books, to making them more curious and willing to embrace reading, as a regular activity, even outdoors.
All Books are themselves mysterious journeys and once we start a new journey, we discover new worlds. The fact that this game creates a fun environment, it will give children further, the feeling of relaxing when they are around books.
The winner of the game is the one who first finds the Title of the Mysterious Book. The reward he or she receives can be the book they found, a hug from everyone, or any other gift children want to prepare. Feel free to let your imagination wonder!
This game can be played anywhere where there is a book shelf. If you have a library, you can play it there, if you go to the park with your kids and find one of those little wooden bookshelves, you can always create fun moments, right there, outdoors. After playing the game, you can invite children to relax under a tree reading or discussing ideas they read in the Mysterious Book they found:)
You don't need any special equipment to play this game, even though, if you play it outdoors you must make sure to check the weather in advance. In case of rain, make sure you have the rain gear with you and that the books are well protected from the raindrops.
If you play this game indoors, there's no need for any special equipment.
