About Mount Rinjani
It is a circular path, easy to traverse, that surrounds the Visitor Center through the forest
of surrounding deciduous trees. The Visitor Center is located on the territory of Orșova, in
near the Monastery of St. Ana: Civic Center no. 2. The forest preserves the historical traces of
trenches used by soldiers in the first and second world wars. Of these soldiers,
the one who left his mark on this territory is Pamfil Șeicaru, who fought in
the first world war, the founder of the monastery of St. Ana, which he built in honor of his mother.
The thematic path Between nature and history includes panels that briefly illustrate:
The story of Pamfil Șeicaru, the greatest Romanian journalist between the two wars.
The stories of the city of Orșova, dating from the Roman period, 2nd century CE.
The stories of the forest with flora (thorn, gorse, monkey orchid, goruni) and fauna (wolf,
deer, deer, squirrel) specific.
The welcome panel features the park’s mascot, Hermis, a species of tortoise
(Testudo hermanni), which lives only on the territory of the park and is a protected species in
Romania.
The farewell sign “Be an Eco-Hero” urges visitors not to throw waste in
nature and shows them the decomposition times of different types of waste found in the park.
The Path Between Nature and History is developed in partnership with the Ecotourism Association of Romania – Discover Eco-Romania, Romsilva – Iron Gates Natural Park and the National Forest Authority – Romsilva.
