About Padurea Craiului Mountains

Valea Cuţilor, from Roşia commune, is accessible in any season, Iacobaş said, because, opened four years ago, the route benefited from additional facilities: wooden bridges in the valley, if the water is high, the wooden balcony was built of the belvedere point, but also an educational and awareness trail regarding the protection of nature in the Cutilor Valley, with six information panels for the tourist attractions in the quays.

In the “Pădurea Craiului – the first steps away from the city” project, seven sets of outdoor flags, four meters high, were made to promote the ecotourism destination Pădurea Craiului, as well as play-learning spaces for children in the vicinity of the two caves tourist centers – Farcu and Meziad – equipped with interactive educational games on the themes of nature protection, plant and animal species. Also, in the project, the thematic path “Leave No Trace”/”Leave No Trace” in the Crişului Repede Gorge was redone, with informative panels about behavior in nature.

CAPDD Bihor also completed the project “Pădurea Craiului – home of the Bihorian crayfish”, because in 2019, a new endemic species of crayfish was discovered in the area. Interested tourists can follow a thematic path about the Bihorean crayfish in the Dălbii valley from Căbeşti, with five panels with information about this species placed.

In the last 100 years, no other species of crayfish has been discovered in Europe than this one. It was identified almost by chance by the researcher Lucian Pârvulescu, lecturer at the Western University of Timişoara. It was initially thought that it was the crayfish, but when they made genetic determinations in Germany, they realized that it is a different species. It looks like the crab, but it has some different features,” said Paul Iacobaş.
