This is an Art Game, so expect children to learn a lot about art, after they play this game. Prior to playing, they will need to pick-up an art book, with pictures of statues made by various artists (you can as well use Google to find pictures of statues, but we recommend using a book ). The game is similar to the one almost all children know, when they have to mimic an object, a person, an idea, or whatever the rest of the kids decide.
Rule no.1: The group of participants must be split into 3 parts: one person that will mimic the Statue, one small group (or one person)that will choose what Statue will they imitate, and another group (or person)that will have to guess what it is and how it is called
Rule no.2 : the group that chooses the Statue and mimics it is not allowed to tell the other group, any information about their choice. You can set-up a certain amount of time for the guessing part or you can just go with the flow
Rule no.3 : The winner is the group that guesses the Name of the statue and if you want, also the Artist, the Place where it can be found or any other details you choose
You have to make sure that children understand all the rules and that information is not unveiled to the Guessing Group, before the game ends. The person or group that chooses which statue they will imitate, will have to whisper it's name (the name of the statue, not their name:) to the person imitating it, so the rest of the group doesn't hear it (they will have to guess it, so..:)
Encourage the children to be creative, when they imitate the statue, they can experiment with postures and facial expressions, the more they experiment, the funnier this game is
The outcome of this game is educational, but also artistic, at the same time. Children will learn about works of art, about artists and various terms used in art world (depends on the teacher/parent how much information they want to include in the game). The fact that the learning process takes place almost without the children noticing it (which is miraculous, right?:), it will make the learning process much more appealing. Children will be more curious about the subject and they will start asking questions, learn more about it, maybe even on their own and become better at playing this game 🙂
The winner is obviously the team that guesses first the name of the statue (or work of art).
This game can be played anywhere where there are a few children or a large group of children.Â
It can be outdoors or indoors, but keep in mind that the space needed can be a bit bigger than a classroom. Therefore, we recommend you to play it outside, where Nature helps children feel more connected, energized and happy playing together.
You don't need any special equipment to play this game, even though, if you play it outdoors you must make sure to check the weather in advance. In case of rain, make sure you have the rain gear with you and that the books are well protected from the raindrops.Â
If you play this game indoors, there's no need for any special equipment.
